We're excited to announce that the United States is now available on Addressable, joining Canada in North America.
US address data is sourced from the National Address Database (NAD), a compilation of address data provided by state, local, and tribal governments, published by the US Department of Transportation. As a work of the federal government, the NAD is not subject to copyright (17 U.S.C. § 105) and is available for re-use without limitation or restriction. For eight states where NAD coverage is thin or missing (California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada and Oregon), address points come instead from the Overture Maps Foundation, under the CDLA Permissive 2.0 licence. Street-level geometry comes from the US Census Bureau's TIGER/Line Shapefiles, also freely available for re-use.
The dataset includes over 112 million address points across 48 states and DC, plus 6.4 million streets from Census TIGER/Line data covering all 50 states and DC, and over 49,000 localities.
Please note: the NAD relies on voluntary state participation. Two states (Hawaii and New Hampshire) currently have no address point data from either the NAD or Overture, though street-level data is available. Unlike peer nations with centralised address registries, US address data is structurally fragmented — coverage varies by state and county. Please evaluate the coverage for your use case before relying on it in production.
Like our other countries, US address data supports both autocomplete and reverse geocoding queries. Use the country code us in your API requests to search US addresses. Results include street number, street, locality (postal city), city, state, ZIP code and coordinates.
The NAD is updated approximately quarterly by the Department of Transportation, and Overture publishes monthly. Addressable refreshes US data monthly, so each new release is picked up within a month.
If you're on an Addressable Large plan, the United States is already included — no changes needed. If you're on a Small plan, you can select United States as your country from your account page. Visit our API documentation for details on using the autocomplete and reverse geocoding endpoints.
